As of right now, the AEW video game is both officially confirmed and yet unannounced. Cody’s update, unfortunately, doesn’t change that status quo. In a question and answer session with Bleacher Report, Cody focuses more on what he describes as honesty rather than hinting or teasing the game anymore. He says, “the AEW video game will be something all fans know about as we begin the process and as we move forward.” That time just isn’t now.

Cody’s entire answer focuses on trying to settle fans down, showing that perhaps the hype for an AEW video game has built a little faster than intended. “If we were to make a very good game, which is our intention, it’s going to take time,” is how Cody frames the situation. Then he repeats the idea that most video game fans know all too well, saying, “Game development is arduous, it’s a very creative space, and we want to do it right.” In other words, game development takes time.

“Be extra patient so we can deliver,” is the summary of what Cody is telling fans about the AEW video game. It isn’t going to come soon and clearly AEW doesn’t want to reveal the title before it’s in a state worth showing. Perhaps some of the other AEW wrestlers who have talked about the game aren’t as familiar with how long game development takes, or perhaps they were just that excited. Either way, Cody’s message is the right one.

Cody does make clear that AEW will continue to provide updates about the game’s development going forward. He says that having fans with them along the journey is important, by which he probably means regular updates regardless of the status of the project. There’s still good reason to be excited about AEW video game news.

What the AEW video game will be is still a major question. AEW could be funding a modern WWE 2K competitor pro wrestling game, it could be making something more like Fire Pro Wrestling, or, as most rumors seem to point, it could make a throwback title more akin to WWF No Mercy. It’s going to be fun finding out.
