This past week, AEW presented a live episode of AEW Dynamite from Cincinnati, Ohio, where it also taped the latest episode of AEW Rampage. Clearly visibly during both shows was a large sign that a fan made telling “weebs” to play Disco Elysium. This is a reference to all of the AEW fan signs that have been arguing about games like Final Fantasy and Mother 3, as so far the AEW fan signs have mostly focused on JRPGs instead of western contributions to the genre.

Disco Elysium, for the uninitiated, is one of the highest-rated video games of recent years, earning an impressive 92 average critic rating at the time of its release in 2019. Disco Elysium earned widespread critical acclaim for its storytelling, gameplay, and character customization, and has been hailed as not only one of the better RPGs of recent years, but one of the best RPGs ever made.

Something that may have kept some RPG fans from trying Disco Elysium already is its lack of availability on their platform of choice. When it first launched, Disco Elysium was only available on PC, though it finally made its way to PlayStation and Google Stadia earlier this year as Disco Elysium: The Final Cut. Disco Elysium Switch, Xbox One, and Series X ports are expected to be out before 2021 is over, though a specific release date still has yet to be announced.

Once the Disco Elysium Switch and Xbox ports are out, many more people will be able to play the game and see what all the fuss is about. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if this trend of AEW fans arguing about video games using signs continues. AEW Dynamite airs new episodes every Wednesday, while AEW Rampage is on Friday nights. AEW also does four pay-per-view events each year, so there’s plenty of opportunity for fans to weigh in on the RPG debate with their own custom made signs at AEW shows.
